Seymour Cottage has no shortage of doors – its walls are made from them.
The cottage, one of the oldest houses in Romsey, was built in the mid-1850s. For almost 60 years it was the home of Sidney and Elizabeth Seymour and their family.
The rare prefabricated cladding, formed from Singapore-made pairs of meranti timber doors, makes it even more significant.
Now in the care of the Romsey & Lancefield Districts Historical Society, the cottage is included in a campaign for all 104 surviving portable buildings imported to Australia in the 19th century to be World Heritage Listed.
