Welcome to Your Macedon Ranges for the week of Monday, January 24, to Sunday, January 30.
🛍️ It’s been a while since the last Gisborne Olde Time Market – almost two years, in fact. Now, though, the market is coming back. It’s due to resume two weeks today, on February 6, in the Aitken St/Hamilton St service roads. In the meantime, this Saturday will be the fifth of the month, which means there will be a farmers’ market in Macedon.
🎤 Local musician Lucy Wise will be performing in Malmsbury on Saturday to mark the launch of her latest single. She says it will be “an afternoon of folk music to warm the heart”. Joining her at the town hall will be Americana duo Cat and Clint and violinist Kat Mear.

How am I doing?
Your Macedon Ranges is researched, written, and edited by me alone. Compiling it takes me 10+ hours each week. I love doing it, and the response has been incredible. I’m very grateful for your kind words.
If you find value in the newsletter, I’d so appreciate you subsidising my coffee habit … it helps with the collating and the writing!
B4 it was a classroom
Then & Now
With thanks to Braemar College.
The students and staff of Braemar College know it as classroom B4.
But the room on the right as you enter Braemar House was originally the drawing room, a place where visitors could go to relax.
Braemar House was built as a guest house by a syndicate of men who had made their money from the silver deposits at Broken Hill.
The guest house opened in 1890, but despite its apparent popularity during summer and Easter holidays, it was put up for sale in 1895. There were no bidders, however, and when William Knox, the last of the syndicate, died in 1912, ownership passed to his family.
Isabel Henderson bought Braemar House in 1918 and moved Clyde School there. Clyde was based on Mt Macedon from 1919 to 1975, when it merged with Geelong Grammar. Braemar College opened the following year.
