Welcome to Your Macedon Ranges for the week of Monday, July 12, to Sunday, July 18.
Hasn’t it been a cracking few days? Beautiful blue sky and sunshine, and gorgeous sunrises and sunsets … they really make your spirits soar. One of the many things I love about the Macedon Ranges is its distinct seasons. While I might occasionally grumble about the cold, the beauty in a frosty morning provides more than adequate compensation.
And what a way to end the school holidays. Over the past week, it’s been great to see so many people enjoying our villages and all they have to offer. It has really reinforced to me how fortunate we are here in the Macedon Ranges.

PAST TIMEs
With thanks to Malmsbury Historical Society.
Poor Bethel Adams. The 22-year-old died on February 25, 1854, from an accidental gunshot wound sustained at the Malmsbury Hotel. We know nothing of the circumstances, only that he was the youngest son of Henry Adams, of Kilkampton, Cornwall.
The notice of his tragic demise, published in The Argus of March 14, 1854, is the earliest known reference to Malmsbury’s longest-running hotel.
From the 1890s to the 1930s, the hotel was one of many threatened with closure as part of a licensing reduction program. By June 1936, only the Malmsbury and the Commercial remained, and the latter was forced to close soon after.
The original Malmsbury Hotel, pictured above, was replaced with a brick building around 1937. The timber from it was said to have been used to build a house further up Mollison St.
