Welcome to Your Macedon Ranges for the week of Monday, June 7, to Sunday, June 13.
While the lockdown in regional Victoria may have been eased, repercussions from the ongoing restrictions on Melbourne are being felt here.
Woodend Winter Arts Festival has activated its Covid contingency plan, rescheduling its Queen’s Birthday long weekend program. These events will now take place on two weekends in July (10-11) and August (7-8). Click here for the revised Winter Arts Festival program.
Several other events that were due to take place this week and next – including A Taste of Ireland, at Kyneton Town Hall – have also been postponed or rescheduled.
Listed below are the events and activities that still appear to be happening this week. If you have any doubts about whether they’re going ahead, though, please check with the organisers before attending.

Local biz love
Last week, with the threat of the initial lockdown period being extended across the state, I asked around to see if any local businesses that had been forced to pivot would like to share details of their offerings. Even though we subsequently received the good news that the restrictions here would ease, I’ve listed their information below.
Macedon Ranges Gardening and Landscaping: Garden maintenance. Gisborne.
Purple Moon Tarot: Tarot and crystal ball readings. Reiki and seichim master. Lancefield.
Cuttings Lifestyle Woodend: Women’s fashion, homewares, and gifts. 3/87 High St, Woodend.
Flour power
PAST TIMES
With thanks to Woodend & District Heritage Society. The society meets every Wednesday, 10am-4pm, at the Old Courthouse, in Forest St, Woodend.
Newham Flour Mill was built by Walter Brydon in 1864. This photo shows the mill from Brydon’s Rd, which is now Don’s Rd. Behind the fence and the huge woodpile on the right can be seen the back of Newham Post Office.
Thomas Newnham bought the flour mill in 1889. He owned a bacon factory in Glen Iris and set about turning the flour mill into one. His Newham bacon factory won awards and remained in operation until 1936.
