Welcome to Your Macedon Ranges for Monday, March 14, to Sunday, March 20.
🎵 Tickets for the Nick Cave and Warren Ellis concerts at Hanging Rock go on sale this week. The concerts are on November 25-26. Pre-sale tickets will be made available to Frontier Touring members on Tuesday (March 15). The remaining tickets will go on general sale on Thursday (March 17). Prices range from $124.90-$199.90. 🚀 It’s just over two years since Elton John performed at the Rock. But you won’t have to wait until Nick Cave to see another concert there. Hanging Rock will be hosting the Macedon Ranges Music Festival on March 26, with blues guitarist Ash Grunwald leading the line-up of musicians. We can also look forward to a few micro-festivals around the district – Romsey Roll and Three Phase Studios this Saturday, and CiderSong on April 2.
🛍️ Don’t forget, two whole-town garage sales are coming up this Saturday: Kyneton and Lancefield. Happy treasure-hunting!

How am I doing?
Your Macedon Ranges is researched, written, and edited by me alone. Compiling it takes me 10+ hours each week. I love doing it, and the response has been incredible. I’m very grateful for your kind words.
If you find value in the newsletter, I’d so appreciate you subsidising my coffee habit … it helps with the collating and the writing!
The Mansions of Malmsbury
Then & Now
With thanks to Malmsbury Historical Society.
Located on a prominent corner, the former Junction Hotel is one of Malmsbury’s most significant landmarks.
A timber hotel was built on the site by 1865 and operated by the Coghlan family. Fire destroyed that building, and the general store and butcher’s shop that also occupied the site, in June 1872.
The hotel was rebuilt soon after in bluestone but closed in 1893. It became the offices of the Hume brothers, Walter and Ernest, in 1900, before they became more widely known for their pioneering work in producing concrete and steel pipes.
Some of the attached shops were removed in 1909.
The building became a boarding house known as the Residential Mansions or Lisieux by 1922 as Malmsbury, a former mining and quarrying town, began to rely on tourism in the years after World War I.
