Professional photographer Tiffany Warner explains how reflections can give you a new perspective on a scene.
When I visited Malmsbury Village Fayre last Sunday, I took the opportunity to capture the market tents from a different angle, shooting them from across the lake. There were a few too many ripples, so the reflection wasn’t a perfect mirror this time.
Instead of using the rule of thirds, I split the frame in half – but you can, of course, experiment with different compositions. The lower you position your phone to the water, the more of the reflection you’ll capture in the shot.
Try this technique with different bodies of water; sunrise and sunset often produce stunning results.
💡 Tip: Try capturing reflections in water for more striking images.

In the news
🍰 MOUNT MACEDON: The Benito Family Pty Ltd has been awarded the lease for the Mt Macedon tearooms. Plans for the venue include an expanded outdoor seating area to take in the scenic views, evening dining, and space for events and functions. The tearooms are expected to reopen in late 2025, with refurbishment works due to begin soon.
