Welcome to Your Macedon Ranges for Monday, October 16, to Sunday, October 22.
🏉 Footy great Robert “Dipper” DiPierdomenico will be hosting an evening of sport, music and fun at the Hawks’ nest in Woodend on Friday, October 27. The theme is 1980s rock. The event at Gilbert Gordon Oval is for anyone over 18 and will raise funds for Woodend Masters Football Club and Woodend Junior Football Netball Club. Tickets cost $25 (includes first drink).
🏃♂️ The Woodend Masters club song says they are grey, they are bald and they are too old, but they still get a kick out of footy. If you’re 35 or over and interested in playing “footy for fun” in the Vic Country AFL Masters League, check out the Woodend Masters Facebook page. New players are welcome. Training will resume this month.
🎭 The Mount Players report that 1,200 tickets for Peter Pan – A Musical Adventure have been snapped up and most of the matinee performances have sold out. Tickets are still available for 8pm shows. The musical will run from November 3-26 (Fri-Sun).
📷 In this week’s article on smartphone photography, Tiffany Warner explains how to bring out the best in your blooms. Check out her article below the event listing.

How am I doing?
Your Macedon Ranges is researched, written, and edited by me alone. Compiling it takes me 10+ hours each week. I love doing it, and the response has been incredible. I’m very grateful for your kind words.
If you find value in the newsletter, I’d so appreciate you subsidising my coffee habit … it helps with the collating and the writing!
Snap it with your phone
banksia roses
As part of a series on smartphone photography, professional photographer Tiffany Warner explains how you can capture beautiful Banksia roses.
The Banksia rose was named after botanist Sir Joseph Banks. This gorgeous climbing rose has delicate lemon-coloured baby rose blooms. Although it originated in China it is quite prolific here in the Macedon Ranges and you will see it cascading over many fences during spring.
The Banksia rose is also a great subject to photograph. For this image I put my mobile phone camera into Portrait mode to get a detailed view of the flowers and make them pop out from the background.
Put about 20cm between the phone camera and the subject. If you’re too close your subject will be blurry. If you don’t have Portrait mode just get as close as you can without the subject becoming blurry and wait a few seconds for the camera to focus.
Always hold your phone as still as possible. This takes a bit of getting used to but once you master it you will enjoy the spectacular images you can create.
💡 Tip: Get up as close as you can before the picture blurs and wait a few seconds for your camera to focus properly.
Happy snapping!
Tiffany
