Welcome to Your Macedon Ranges for Monday, October 30, to Sunday, November 5.

🌸 The Duneira Bluebell Festival will take place at the weekend. The Duneira estate dates back to 1872 when it was established by pastoralist Suetonius Officer. During the festival, you’ll be able to go on a tour of the grand house and enjoy the magnificent gardens. There will be music from So Saxy, as well as market stalls, and you can savour CWA scones and jam. Click here for details of more local garden events, including a newly announced open garden in Macedon (December 2-3).
🪕 Grammy-nominated Tibetan musican Tenzin Choegyal will be performing in Newham on November 11 and Woodend on November 25.

How am I doing?
Your Macedon Ranges is researched, written, and edited by me alone. Compiling it takes me 10+ hours each week. I love doing it, and the response has been incredible. I’m very grateful for your kind words.
If you find value in the newsletter, I’d so appreciate you subsidising my coffee habit … it helps with the collating and the writing!

TREES
As part of a series on smartphone photography, professional photographer Tiffany Warner suggests an alternative approach for capturing trees.

Next time you’re out and about and you spot a beautiful tree, instead of stepping back and taking a photo of the whole tree, why not try something different?
What I love to do is get underneath the tree and capture the canopy with the sky as the backdrop.
Get up nice and close, move your phone around until you are pleased with what you see on the screen, then tap the screen to focus on what you want to be the star of the photo.
In this image of a Japanese maple, I focused on the largest leaf and framed around it. I like to go slightly off-centre to create more interest. By getting up close, I was able to capture the beautiful details of the veins and textures in the leaves.
💡 Tip: Try positioning yourself under a tree canopy and shoot upwards through the leaves. Get in close to emphasise the texture and details.
Happy snapping!
Tiffany
