Welcome to Your Macedon Ranges for Monday, November 20, to Sunday, November 26.
’Twas a month before Christmas,
When all through the town
Shoppers were stirring,
as twilight came down …
🎄The festive season will get under way on Friday with the first of our twilight shopping nights. Over the next few weeks, there will be carol concerts, film nights, workshops and festivals. Click here for a round-up of Christmas events and activities.
🐦 Pro photographer Tiffany Warner has been sharing some great smartphone photography tips with us. I’ve been inspired by them; I hope you have too. This weekend you can meet Tiffany and other Macedon artists when they open up their studios. They’re a wonderfully talented bunch. (P.S. check out Tiffany’s latest tip below the list of events.)

How am I doing?
Your Macedon Ranges is researched, written, and edited by me alone. Compiling it takes me 10+ hours each week. I love doing it, and the response has been incredible. I’m very grateful for your kind words.
If you find value in the newsletter, I’d so appreciate you subsidising my coffee habit … it helps with the collating and the writing!

KING PARROTS
As part of a series on smartphone photography, professional photographer Tiffany Warner explains how you can take beautiful photos of our local birds.
One of my favourite things to do is to get up close and personal with the wildlife of the Macedon Ranges.
I am especially fond of our King Parrots. I lure them in with daily fresh water and, sometimes, a sneaky handful of seed on the weekends. These birds are quite friendly and can come fairly close if you are patient; it doesn’t take much to gain their trust.
I used my favourite mode, Portrait, to add some depth to my photo and highlight the bird’s detail. Remember to tap the screen on your desired focal point – in this case, the bird – then wait for the camera to focus before you press the shutter.
Think about your framing; the subject doesn’t have to be perfectly in the centre. Experiment. Take three different images, moving your subject’s position, and see which is your favourite.
💡 Tip: Experiment with framing.
Happy snapping!
Tiffany
📷 In addition to portrait and commercial work, Tiffany Warner runs short courses on smartphone photography for social media. She is also one of the Macedon artists who will be opening their studios on November 25-26.
